ABC Four Corners reporter Louise Milligan has divulged on social media today the ABC, its staff and *others* had copped no less than 7 legal threats from associates of elite Sydney boys school Cranbrook, which perches over Sydney Harbour and the richest suburb in Australia, Point Piper.

A Senate inquiry into the spread of fire ants in Australia has heard that the government program tasked with their elimination is an “absolute shambles” and that an independent eradication body is urgently needed.Invasive species could be worse than rabbits, cane toads, foxes, camels, wild dogs and feral cats combined.

Back in the real world, the labor party will be relieved and quietly pleased with an outcome that saw its candidate and the new member for Dunkley, Jodie Belyea, increase its primary vote – something no pundits predicted – securing 52.7% of the two party preferred (2pp) vote with a 3.6% 2pp swing against.

The ABC is in danger of losing its way and is drifting closer to a commercial model, former TV host Kerry O’Brien has said on the eve of Ita Buttrose’s departure as chair of the national broadcaster.
Speaking to the ABC on Tuesday, O’Brien said the “absolutely fundamental” role of the ABC board was to protect the broadcaster’s independence and ensure it received adequate funding.

Going nuclear - The Politics
The tedious march towards nuclear energy as an ingrained narrative in Australian politics was rudely interrupted on the weekend by democracy. The exercise in democratic expression at the Dunkley by-election was an irritating disruption to the coal lobby’s Trojan Horse strategy to promote yet-to-be-designed (or proven) nuclear technology as the only way to get to net zero.
