Australia has one of the most concentrated media ownership landscapes in the world. Trust in this media is low as Australians find it more and more difficult to navigate to sources of news and commentary which is accurately informing them.
There is also a vast range of truly independent news media in Australia. The challenge has always been to generate enough critical mass so that the attention of the potentially interested public is drawn to them.
TrueNorth is a vehicle to do just that.

Who’s involved with TrueNorth
TrueNorth is a solo run initiative…
Denise Shrivell (TrueNorth Founder) - has had a long career in the advertising, media and publishing sectors. She is now a political campaigner and commentator, where through her role as a co-founder of Northern Sydney’s Independent, has been directly involved with election campaigns for independents Kylea Tink, Jane Caro, Helen Conway and Victoria Davidson. She has an active and engaged social media following on various platforms. Denise has also spoken at a Senate Inquiry into Australia’s media ownership and played a role in the creation of LINA - an industry organisation supporting Australia’s hyperlocal independent news publishers - which supports 170+ newsrooms around the country.
